BLACK ADAM 2 (2025) — The Rise of the Antihero Continues

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios are set to reignite the DC Extended Universe with BLACK ADAM 2 (2025) — an explosive sequel that expands the mythology of Kahndaq and pits the legendary antihero against powerful new adversaries. Following the events of the 2022 blockbuster, this film promises higher stakes, darker themes, and an even greater clash between gods and men.

A Kingdom in Chaos

The story picks up two years after the fall of Intergang and the liberation of Kahndaq. Teth-Adam, once hailed as the savior of his nation, now faces the harsh reality of ruling a land divided between worship and fear. His quest for justice turns into a struggle for control — not only over his enemies, but over his own rage and morality.

When an ancient cosmic force known as The Crown of Sabbac resurfaces, threatening to unleash chaos across dimensions, Black Adam must form uneasy alliances with both heroes and villains to confront a danger even he may not be able to destroy.

Cast and Characters

Dwayne Johnson returns as Teth-Adam / Black Adam, delivering an even more complex portrayal of the antihero — torn between his role as protector and conqueror. Johnson has described the sequel as “a deeper dive into the mind of power — what happens when a god questions his own purpose.”

The film introduces Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, who enters the story to prevent divine war from consuming the mortal world, and Aldis Hodge reprises his role as Carter Hall / Hawkman, now seeking redemption after their devastating battle in the first film.

Other returning cast members include Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, appearing in mystical visions guiding Adam’s choices, and Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz, who becomes a crucial voice of humanity in Adam’s crumbling world.

A major new addition to the cast is Jason Momoa in a surprise crossover role rumored to connect the film directly to the broader DC Multiverse.

Direction and Production

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam 2 expands the visual and thematic scale of the first movie. Filmed across locations in Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco, the sequel promises massive set pieces blending mythology, magic, and modern warfare.

Cinematographer Lawrence Sher returns with a darker, more mythic tone, while Hiram Garcia and Beau Flynn lead the production team alongside Johnson under Seven Bucks Productions.

The director has described the sequel as “a collision of power, politics, and prophecy — where even gods can bleed.”

Visuals and Score

The visual effects team, led by Wētā FX, promises breathtaking sequences involving interdimensional portals, celestial combat, and large-scale destruction set against the backdrop of a war-torn Kahndaq.

Composer Lorne Balfe returns to score the film, blending thunderous orchestral themes with Middle Eastern instrumentation, emphasizing the film’s fusion of myth and modern power.

Themes

At its core, Black Adam 2 explores what happens when absolute power faces absolute consequence. The film delves into Adam’s struggle with his divine identity — can a being built for vengeance learn compassion, or is his destiny forever bound to destruction?

It also examines the blurred line between hero and tyrant, questioning whether peace can exist without power — and whether redemption is truly possible for a man who sees himself as a god.

Release and Expectations

BLACK ADAM 2 is set for a worldwide release in December 2025, positioned as one of DC’s most anticipated films of the year. Early concept art and teaser footage showcased at fan conventions hint at larger battles, deeper character arcs, and a surprise mid-credits scene that could reshape the DC cinematic timeline.

With its mix of myth, morality, and spectacle, Black Adam 2 stands poised to redefine the modern superhero epic — proving once again that in the DC Universe, power always comes with a price.
