Will There Be a Black Adam 2?

Introduction
Since the release of Black Adam in 2022, fans have eagerly speculated about a sequel. However, as of now, Black Adam 2 has not been officially confirmed — and indications suggest it may not happen anytime soon.

Background: Black Adam and Its Reception

Black Adam was released in 2022, starring Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam / Black Adam. The film had a substantial budget, reported between $190–260 million, and went on to gross around $393.5 million worldwide. While financially respectable, the box office result was viewed by some as underwhelming given expectations and scale. Critically, the film received mixed reviews, which may have impacted momentum for further installments.

Why a Sequel Seems Unlikely (for Now)

Leadership Changes at DC / Warner Bros.

One of the most-cited reasons for shelving Black Adam 2 is the major leadership change at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery. After James Gunn and Peter Safran became co-heads of DC, they restructured the DC Universe’s direction.

Dwayne Johnson himself has referred to Black Adam 2 as having been “caught in a vortex of new leadership.” He expressed frustration that despite positive audience response, the project was sidelined under the new regime.

Not Part of New DC’s “First Chapter”

Johnson announced that Black Adam would not be included in the first chapter of the newly rebooted DC Universe under James Gunn’s leadership. According to reports, Black Adam 2 is not in the early slate of DC’s plans.

Financial and Strategic Factors

The box office return, though large, may not have been sufficient to justify a big-scale sequel under new financial scrutiny. Without a companion major franchise push, Black Adam may not fit neatly into the storytelling strategy that Gunn and Safran are pursuing.

What Could Change?

Even though Black Adam 2 is off the immediate path, there remains some possibility for the character’s return — possibly in a multiverse or crossover scenario aligned with DC’s revised vision. Johnson’s production company and DC reportedly remain in discussions about the most valuable ways Black Adam can be used in future DC multiverse chapters.

Conclusion

As of now, no sequel to Black Adam has been officially greenlit. The combination of leadership changes at DC, strategic reorientation under James Gunn, and financial considerations all appear to have stalled Black Adam 2. That said, while the immediate future doesn’t include a sequel, the door may not be permanently closed — especially with the multiverse approach now in vogue in comic-book film universes.
