Kantara 2 — A Legend Chapter
Movie Introduction
Kantara 2 is an extension of the Kantara: Chapter 2 (2022) universe, but it is essentially a prequel, telling the origin of the legend, focusing on the spiritual and historical background of the coastal region of Karnataka during the Kadamba period.
Director and actor: Rishab Shetty, who plays the lead role and also acts as the screenwriter, with Sapthami Gowda and Achyuth Kumar in the lead roles.
The film is produced by Hombale Films, and is oriented to invest in VFX and large-scale design to surpass the standards of the first part.
Content – setting & theme
Set in the ancient Kadamba period, the film delves into the origins of rituals such as Bhuta Kola, the conflict between indigenous and natural forces, as well as the intersection of faith and power.
Expected to be a blend of legend, action and spirituality in the ancient traditions of Tulu Nadu.
📅 Production & Release Schedule
Filming began in late 2023 to 2024, and was completed on 7 July 2025.
Originally targeted for a Christmas or summer 2025 release, it was officially confirmed for an October 2, 2025 release in multiple languages (Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, etc.).
Teasers and trailers were released in late 2024 and early 2025 to build anticipation.
Incidents and Behind the Scenes
During filming in Kerala, an extra died of drowning during a break; the incident forced the crew to temporarily halt production for safety investigations.
Another accident in which around 30 people, including Rishab Shetty, fell into a dam was fortunately saved and not fatal, but further investigation into safety measures is underway.
Artist Kalabhavan Niju (43) died of a heart attack while shooting in Bengaluru — an emotional loss for the crew.
