Thama – When Love Is Swept Into Darkness

Thama is the fifth film in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe (MHCU), directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik. The film marks a different direction for the hit horror-comedy universe — it is not a pure horror-comedy but a love story with supernatural and zombie elements, combining romance, humor and horror.
Cast & Characters
Ayushmann Khurrana plays Alok, a thoughtful historian who pursues the mystery of vampires in the past.
Rashmika Mandanna plays Tadaka, a fellow traveler who promises to resonate especially with the protagonist.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the main antagonist Yakshasan — promising to bring dark and dramatic aspects.
Paresh Rawal as Ram Bajaj Goyal, a supporting character, is expected to add some comedy to the story.
The film also features Varun Dhawan in a cameo as Bhaskar/Bhediya, a tie-in to the MHCU universe from Bhediya; and Malaika Arora and Nora Fatehi in special musical numbers.

Plot & Setting
The plot revolves around a quirky historian — Alok — who deciphers legendary vampire relics from the ancient Vijayanagar period, straddling two timelines: ancient and present. The themes of love, betrayal, and supernatural mystery are interwoven in an intriguing way.
Shooting & Production
Principal shooting began in December 2024 in Mumbai, moving to the forests of Ooty and the mountains of the Nilgiris in early 2025.
Filming wrapped up in mid-2025, with only two special music scenes remaining to be completed.

Launch & Promotion
The first look poster was revealed on August 18, 2025, followed by the “World of Thama” teaser on August 19, 2025.
The teaser gave viewers a “love story… but bloody” vibe — and the online community immediately created buzz, predicting that this will be a notable work in the horror comedy genre.
The film is scheduled to release on October 17, Diwali 2025 — the golden time for entertainment films in India.
Themes & Cultural Suggestions
The title Thama seems to be derived from Ashwatthama, the immortal warrior in the Mahabharata epic, alluding to the mythological, vengeful, and supernatural powers of vampires.
Official Trailer
The trailer opens up a romantic — yet creepy — world, with a horror-comedy tone, haunting soundtrack, and intriguing editing. It promises a story that combines love, comedy, and evil — very much the Maddock Supernatural Universe.
