The story of Gremlins 3 explored the history and mythology of the creatures. The Christmas season isn’t usually a good time to release a horror film. However, in 1984, Warner Bros. and Steven Spielberg decided to challenge that idea. Both major film production companies not only chose to release a family-friendly monster movie, but they also set it during the holidays. The end result was Gremlins, a horror film, a resounding and fun hit that sparked a craze for creatures called Mogwais and Gremlins.

Following its initial success in 1984, Spielberg and company decided to give the concept another try, releasing Gremlins II: The Next Generation in 1990. The sequel failed to match the success of its predecessor, indicating that perhaps the Gremlins craze that had dominated the ’80s was officially over. However, fans have always maintained that a third Gremlins film was necessary, and a third installment has been hinted at for some time. Now, details have been revealed about what a third film would entail.
