Inspired by true events, The Woman King tells the epic story of General Nanisca (Viola Davis), the fearless leader of the army of female warriors known as Agojie, who defended the African kingdom of Dahomey in the 19th century.
When foreign invaders threaten her land and her people, Nanisca must train a new generation of fearless women to face impossible odds. Among them is Nawi (Thuso Mbedu), a young recruit whose spirit and bravery will redefine the meaning of honor and sacrifice.
