Underworld: Rise of the Vampire marks a thrilling return to the glory—and the shadow—of the long-running vampire action franchise. Decades after the events of the Blood Wars, Selene has gone into hiding, presumed dead by both werewolves and vampires. But when a mysterious hybrid child of unknown origin is discovered in the ruins of Eastern Europe, ancient prophecies resurface, foretelling the return of a “Blood Queen” who will either unite or destroy all the remaining clans. Selene is forced out of exile not to fight for power, but to protect it.
The film introduces a new generation of characters, including a haunting vampire historian (played by Richard Madden) and a rogue werewolf assassin (Jodie Comer) who questions his loyalty. Their dynamic with Selene adds an emotional depth and fresh chemistry to a franchise often known more for action than feeling.
Visually, Rise of the Vampire is sleek, cool, and operatic. Midnight castles, neon-drenched crypts, and abandoned cathedrals create a vibrant backdrop for high-speed chases, sword duels, and brutal shootouts. The action choreography is more refined than ever, blending martial arts with supernatural movements in a way that feels both realistic and mythical.
The story delves deeper with flashbacks to the First Vampire and hidden truths about Selene’s lineage, but it never falls apart. And Beckinsale? She continues to command the screen with the same icy elegance and savage fury that made Selene an icon.
