Zootopia 2 (2025) – A bigger city, deeper secrets, and a wilder chase
Disney returns to the mammal metropolis in Zootopia 2, a spirited, inventive, and surprisingly timely sequel that expands the world of the original while deepening its social analysis and character arcs. Directed once again by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, this sequel proves that the city of predators and prey still has many stories to tell and mysteries to solve.
Set three years after the events of the first film, Zootopia 2 finds Officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and her partner Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), now a full-fledged officer, rising stars in the ZPD. But when a series of high-tech heists threatens to unravel the city’s fragile balance, the duo is forced to team up with an unlikely new recruit: a cunning arctic fox hacker named Vex (voiced by Ayo Edebiri).
What follows is a thrilling detective adventure that takes viewers beyond the familiar districts and into the heart of Zootopia, including the Steelclaw Industrial Estate and the mysterious Sky Burrow, a floating district ruled by owls. As they uncover a plot to control animal behavior through artificial intelligence, Judy and Nick must confront questions of free will, trust, and who makes the rules in a supposedly egalitarian society.
The animation is stunning, with more dynamic lighting, weather effects, and an even greater variety of species and environments. The humor is sharp, the action snappy, and the dialogue crisp, but it’s the film’s ability to integrate serious themes into family-friendly fun that sets it apart once again.

Smart, heartwarming, and visually stunning, Zootopia 2 builds on the original with wit and purpose. The city is bigger. The stakes are higher. And the heart? It’s still in the right place.
